You're not looking at a purpose-built racing car, but a street legal, race-honed machine that is the Opel Astra OPC Extreme. For now labelled as a "super sports study," the uber-hatch will make its public debut at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show next month.
It won't just stay as a concept study, though, as Opel has announced that the Extreme sets the foundation for a low-volume production model. When that does happen – no timelines have been set – it will be the fastest street legal Astra ever. A Vauxhall-badged version is possible too.
Opel says the sports coupe is a direct derivative of its Nurburgring Endurance Championship (VLN) racecar, the Astra OPC Cup. It gets carbon components, an integrated safety structure, racing seats and six-point seatbelts so it can really call the Nurburgring Nordschleife its second home.
