However, for all locally-assembled (CKD) models, you'd have to fork out RM18 more (due to a 6% GST on handling and number plate fees) and RM27 more for all fully-imported (CBU) models (due to a 6% GST on inspection, handling and number plate fees). Then there's insurance, which is of course subject to its own 6% GST. For instance, where you'd previously pay RM90,628 for a CKD Polo 1.6 Hatch, OTR without insurance, you'll now pay RM90,646. In the case of the CBU Golf TSI, it's RM164,635 now, versus RM164,608 before. Volkswagen Malaysia last revamped its prices in January, when the prices of all models and variants, except for the Tiguan, were upped. From the looks of it, only the ES 300h hybrid is expected to cost more following the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST). For starters the Lexus CT 200h now costs RM255,727.50 on-the-road (OTR) without insurance - a drop of RM1,158 or 0.45% when compared to its pre-GST price tag. The recently-launced Lexus NX range now begins at RM287,199 OTR sans insurance for the 200t variant while the range-topping NX 300h goes for RM372,110 - a decrease of RM2,890 from its pre-GST price tag of RM375,000 for the latter. On the other end of the scale, the LS range will now witness a decrease of up to RM13,677 courtesy of the dip in price for the Lexus LS 600h L. The sole model to be priced higher is the ES 300h with its price rising slightly to RM353,201 - a minute increase over the original figure of RM353,000. The reduction lines up well with what was said earlier on by UMW Toyota president Datuk Ismet Suki. "There will be price reduction up to RM4,000 or 2% for Toyota and Lexus models," he said. As one can see from the attached graphic, the 2.04% decrease for the GS 350 F Sport model confirms Ismet's statement. The CBU Thai-assembled pick-up truck will be officially launched in May. The new Triton's arrival is of course no surprise - we've covered its launch in Thailand late last year and more recently showed you undisguised spyshots of a registered unit in Malaysia. In Thailand, the Triton debuted with a new 2.4 litre turbodiesel MIVEC VGT engine with 182 PS, 430 Nm of torque and 20% better efficiency; but Malaysian-bound Tritons will have a 2.5 litre VGT engine with 178 PS and 400 Nm from 2,000 to 3,500 rpm, an improved version of the current 178 PS/350 Nm DI-D motor. The new engine not coming here could be because of our lower quality diesel, but an extra 50 Nm shot of torque isn't bad. The gearbox is a five-speed auto with paddle shifters for the top variant. Equipment wise, MMM is highlighting the above-mentioned shift paddles, HID projector headlamps with LED daytime running lights, dual-zone auto air con, auto headlamps and wipers, and a 6.1-inch touchscreen head unit with reverse camera for the top-spec, auto-only VGT Adventure. It rolls on 17-inch wheels and has an extra sport bar for the bed, as seen in our spyshots above. One rung below, the VGT AT and VGT MT (five-speed manual) get keyless entry and a push start button. Both also get the touchscreen HU, but without the camera. The VGT Adventure and VGT AT get a new rotary selector for the Easy Select 4WD system (2H, 4H, 4L) to replace the old vibrating stick. There are also two non-VGT (variable geometry turbo) workhorse variants, namely the Triton 4X4 MT and the Triton Quest 4X2 MT. The latter's 'Quest' name replaces the old 'Lite' moniker. All models and variants see price reductions of between RM160 and RM4,900, except for the Toyota Vios - four out of five Vios variants are pricier after insurance (which is subject to its own 6% GST). The Vios J manual, E auto, G auto and TRD Sportivo are costlier by RM, RM, RM and RM respectively. Only the Vios J auto is cheaper, by RM. However, if we take insurance out of the picture, all Vios variants are very slightly cheaper. All other models and variants are cheaper than before - chiefly, the Corolla Altis enjoys price drops between RM1,954 and RM2,315, while the Hilux is cheaper by between RM500 and the high-RM800s. The Previa is over RM3,600 cheaper, and the Alphard is RM4,400-4,900 cheaper. The Camry is not in the list, because the new 2015 model is set to be launched tomorrow (April 2). We'll know the GST prices then. In line with most of the changes happening across the board from other marques, prices for all Audi models, except for the A4 1.8 TFSI, will see a decrease of up to 4.42%. The aforementioned slash pertains to the Audi Q3 2.0 TFSI quattro model - which now wears a price tag of RM252,900 on-the-road (OTR) sans insurance - a decline of RM11,700 from the original price of RM264,600. Other significant drop in prices include models such as the A6 3.0 TFSI quattro, A7 3.0 TFSI quattro and A8 L 3.0 TFSI quattro with figures falling by as much as RM13,600, RM15,000 and RM16,000, respectively. As mentioned earlier, the only model that sees a price increase is the Audi A4 1.8 TFSI, which now sports a price tag of RM239,900 - a 0.8% increase from the pre-GST price tag of RM238,000. The Audi A1 and A1 Sportback have been dropped from the line-up early this year. As you can see, all models see price drops of between RM1,000 and RM4,000 - except for the E 300 BlueTEC Hybrid, whose OTR without insurance price has been reduced by a significant RM10,000 to RM338,888! The CLA 45 AMG is the only car here whose price has not dropped. Opt for the light-aluminium trim and you'll be paying the same RM392,888 as before; choose the carbon-fibre trim and you'll now have to fork out RM396,888, which is RM1,000 more than before. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak launched the upgrading of an existing road to Bakun Dam from KM32 of the Bintulu-Miri trunk road yesterday, with Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem present, The Star reports. It will be toll-free, the PM said. The project will be built in segments, starting from Tanjung Datu to Sematan, the 40 km stretch bringing road connectivity for the first time between the westernmost tip of Sarawak and the area represented by the Sarawak CM. This segment is scheduled for completion by the end of 2018. Next up is the 740 km stretch from Sematan to Miri, which will begin construction in the third quarter of 2016, and is scheduled for completion in Q1 2023. The Sarawak portion from Tedungan to Merapok, sandwiched between Brunei, will see construction from early 2018 to early 2023. The daily reports that the Pan Borneo Highway will mostly mirror the existing trunk road, and it involves the widening of the present three-metre wide single-carriageway into a dual-carriageway. Presently, the trunk road isn't in good shape and requires major maintenance due to heavy usage. This means slow progress, estimated at 19 hours between Sematan and Miri. Announced by the PM in Budget 2015, construction of the 1,663 km Pan Borneo Highway (936 km in Sarawak, 727 km in Sabah) would be fast-tracked under a public-private-partnership implementation model, with total cost estimated at RM27 billion. The highway is expected to bring economic benefits to the region. According to a Government study of Peninsular Malaysia's North South Expressway, highway construction induces a multiplier effect of four times to the economy. Its Renault Twingo-based, fixed-roof sibling along with the larger smart forfour model were introduced last year. With the prototype sporting minimal camouflage, one can see that the smart fortwo cabrio will most likely mirror the coupe from the roof down with the same mesh front grille and squared-off head and tail lamp assemblies. The ghastly-looking wheels are a prototype-only accessory, obviously. The roof mechanism is expected to be carried over from the previous-generation smart fortwo cabrio - an electronically-operated fabric roof slides back à la Fiat 500C while the frames will have to be removed by hand. Dimensions should remain the same with a length of 2,690 mm, a width of 1,660 mm and a height of 1,550 mm - the latter could differentiate slightly from its fixed-roof stablemate. As for powerplant options, the cabrio is expected to mirror the standard variant. That means a base 1.0 litre, three-cylinder engine with 60 PS/91 Nm of torque. Following that, a 1.0 litre, three-cylinder mill with 72 PS/91 Nm occupies the 'middle-child' slot while a 898 cc turbocharged mill with 91 PS/135 Nm tops the range. All of the rear-mounted engines can be mated to either a five-speed manual or a six-speed Twinamic six-speed dual-clutch transmission with drive going to the rear wheels. Things are likely to remain the same on the inside while the list of safety features which includes five airbags, seat belt pre-tensioners, Crosswind Assist and Lane Keeping Assist will be retained.
