Here's a more comprehensive photo gallery of the Honda BR-V Prototype, which made its world debut earlier the afternoon at the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) 2015 in Jakarta.
The seven-seater, which is essentially the crossover variation of the Mobilio, offers what the company terms the "appearance of an SUV and handling, utility and spacious cabin of an MPV."
Key exterior elements include high ground clearance and prominent roof rails for all grades of the car, wrap-around LED rear lights and new design 16-inch alloys. No exterior dimensions were revealed for the study, which effectively looks very close to completion as a production vehicle.
Two BR-V units were showcased at the premiere, the first offering a more conventional - and cleaner - presentation with what should be a working interior (the vehicle was on stage and off limits, so no detailed shots of that, unfortunately).
The other vehicle, the white example in the photos, is a more rugged-looking version, complete with bodykit and blacked-out windows, suggesting how the BR-V can be dressed up.
The accompanying release mentions that the BR-V promises class-leading space with additional knee room and headroom, and elements such as the automaker's Multi-Information Display and a rear AC blower (between the first and second row seats) are set to be featured.
The BR-V will be powered by a 1.5 litre i-VTEC engine with 120 hp at 6,600 rpm and 145 Nm of torque at 4,600 rpm, essentially the same mill as found in the City and Jazz. Indonesia will get two transmission choices, an Earth Dreams CVT or a new six-speed manual gearbox.
Safety equipment touted for the vehicle includes dual front airbags, ABS, EBD, Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) and a hill-start assist system, with Isofix points also mentioned.
The BR-V will be marketed in Indonesia priced between 230 to 265 million rupiah (RM68k to RM78k), depending on variant when it goes on sale in the republic next year. Production is set to begin at Honda Prospect Motor's plant in Karawang in January 2016.
The more pertinent point is to whether the BR-V is destined for the Malaysian market - nothing via the official channel of course, but sources within the company have intimated that the vehicle is very much bound for our shores. No word on timing, or pricing, but the BR-V is coming, and that's certainly going to shake things up in a big way.
