According to Autocar UK, the next-generation Honda CR-V will be made more premium and larger in 2017 to distance itself from the smaller HR-V. Honda's head of cars in the UK, Leon Brannan said that the new CR-V will offer seven seats as standard and four-wheel drive, to perhaps rival the Land Rover Discovery Sport and Volvo XC60.
Brannan states that the CR-V is a 'massive pillar' for Honda. The HR-V will remain a two-wheel drive vehicle, thereby creating a space for the CR-V to position itself as a different proposition altogether. He admits that to compete with Land Rover as a brand, it's less about the CR-V and more about Honda as a brand.
Interestingly the interior of the next-gen CR-V is expected to incorporate a lot from the HR-V, including the smaller car's touchscreen infotainment system and general dashboard layout. In the UK, at least, its engines could also mirror those found in the UK-market HR-V as well, specifically the 118 hp 1.6 litre diesel and the 128 hp 1.5 litre petrol variants. It's likely that other markets such as ours will get different engine lineups, though.
LOVE this facelift of Honda CR-V.
