Teased earlier on, the Suzuki iK-2 concept has now been unveiled, alongside the Suzuki iM-4, at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. While the iM-4 previews a compact crossover, the iK-2 we have here serves as the biggest hint to the Japanese automaker's next foray into the compact hatch genre.
Based on an entirely new platform, the Suzuki iK-2 follows a "Liquid Flow" design theme that sports plenty of curves and dips to ape the flowing nature of liquid itself. Out front, the Suzuki badge is prominently displayed on the chrome-lined front grille which is flanked by swept-back LED head lamps.
In profile, the darkened pillars help to achieve a 'floating roof' effect while multi-spoke, 18-inch wheels wrapped in 225/45 tyres provide a squat stance. The rear is rounded off with a sloping tail, complimented by a solid chrome bar that spans the entire length of the tailgate. A stylised rear diffuser completes the look.
As is the case with the aforementioned new platform, the production version of the Suzuki iK-2 will boast improved NVH levels as well as increased rigidity and a lower kerb weight compared to its current crop of hatches. The marque has also stated that it will streamline its existing four platforms into just three.
Also new is the inclusion of Suzuki's range of Boosterjet engines. Developed in-house, the new 1.0 litre, direct-injected turbocharged engine promises improved fuel efficiency as well as performance. Official figures are still unknown as of now.
When the Suzuki iK-2 hits the assembly line next year, it is expected to be equipped with a SHVS (Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki) mild hybrid system, which will probably be mated to the aforementioned Boosterjet engine.
