CRZ Toyo Review- 4

As motoring.com.au understands, an all-new Honda CR-Z could very well make its debut in 2017 before hitting the showroom floor in 2018. Good news, then, for fans of the little coupe as the relatively unloved hatch was axed in Australia and Europe - in Malaysia, prices have soared to RM183,000 due to the expiration of hybrid incentives for CBU models below 2.0 litre.

According to said source, Honda America has been lobbying for an affordable, performance-oriented compact coupe to sit alongside the Acura NSX. As a result, one can see that it would make perfect sense for Honda to revive the CR-Z nameplate for another generation.

While not much about the car is known, a source from inside Honda's R&D centre in Tochigi claims that the new Honda CR-Z will be "a force to reckon with." The new model is expected to be based on the next-gen Civic - the outgoing model sits on a Jazz platform - with a shortened wheelbase.

Power is touted to come courtesy of a detuned version of the 2.0 litre, turbocharged engine found in the Honda Civic Type-R - numbers could hover around the 280+ hp marker. From the looks of it, the next-gen Honda CR-Z could sit a rung higher on Honda's performance scale. The JDM CR-Z, on the other hand, is expected to feature a turbo'ed 1.5 litre i-DCD powertrain mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission.
