Volkswagen has announced that it is coming up with a seven-seater version for its next-gen Volkswagen Tiguan - the three-row model will be built in Mexico, with production set to begin end-2016 for a 2017 market introduction.
The automaker said that production of the extended-wheelbase Tiguan isn't just meant for North American market consumption, and that the model will be supplied to South America and other countries around the world, with the exception of Europe and China. No mention was made if RHD production is on the cards.
The current Typ 5N Tiguan - which sits on the company's PQ35 platform - made its market debut in 2007 (in Malaysia, 2008), and was facelifted in 2011. The second-generation Tiguan will utilise VW's Modular Transverse Matrix (MQB) platform - the new SUV is expected to premiere in Frankfurt later this year.
