Hot on the heels of the facelifted Hyundai i30 and i40 models comes the Hyundai i20 Coupe, the three-door version of the i20 B-segment hatchback. The sportier variant comes two months after the second-generation five-door made its world premiere at the Paris Motor Show.
With the "Coupe" moniker comes a vastly different exterior aesthetic and a more rakish roofline from its more sedate brethren, a significant change from the previous three-door. At the front, the already slim upper grille has been narrowed to a slit, while the six-point lower grille is downturned and made larger for a more garang look. The shape of the fog lights has been changed, too.
Moving back, the bodyside appears much more heavily sculpted, the black plastic rubbing strips have been dispensed with and there's now a distinctive rear fender crease that flows into the more angular tail lights. Meanwhile, the "floating roof" aesthetic of the regular i20 has been exaggerated by a smaller blacked-out portion of the C-pillar, while the rear spoiler has been made larger and more aggressive.
Inside, however, the Coupe looks very similar to the standard i20's interior, but customers can jazz the cabin up a bit with an orange trim option to match the new Tangerine Orange paint choice on the outside. Better news comes from the fact that despite the sportier looks, the Coupe actually gets a larger boot than the five-door, at 335 litres.
The engine choices that are available on the five-door feature here as well – there's Kappa 84 PS/122 Nm 1.25 litre and 100 PS/134 Nm 1.4 litre four-cylinder petrols as well as U2 75 PS/180 Nm 1.1 litre and 90 PS/240 Nm 1.4 litre four-cylinder diesels on sale from launch, while a 1.0 litre turbocharged petrol three-pot will come on stream next year.
