Mitsubishi has released the first images of the trio of concepts it'll unveil at the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show later this month. The Concept GC-PHEV, Concept XR-PHEV and Concept AR were initially revealed in vague outline form earlier in the month, with only the sketch of the GC-PHEV offering a hint of what to expect from the design studies, which the automaker says points to the development direction it's set to take in the near future.
The Concept GC-PHEV is a full-size SUV that likely previews the next-gen Pajero, and the full-time 4WD offering features a front engine, rear-wheel drive layout plug-in hybrid EV (PHEV) system consisting of a supercharged 3.0 litre V6 mill paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, with a high-output motor and a high-capacity battery in attendance.
Also to be found on the Grand Cruiser is the company's S-AWC (Super All Wheel Control) integrated vehicle dynamic control system, as well as a host of wireless-based next-gen preventive safety and driver support technologies.
The Concept XR-PHEV, or Crossover Runner, is a next-gen compact SUV that will presumably offer a take of what the next ASX should shape up like. The front engine, front-wheel drive PHEV-equipped vehicle is powered by a 1.1 litre direct-injection turbocharged MIVEC lump and a lightweight, compact and high-efficiency motor.
Finally, the Concept AR, or Active Runabout, which should preview the next-gen Grandis. The automaker says that the compact MPV design study offers SUV maneuverability with MPV roominess. Shod with a lightweight mild hybrid system, it also utilises the 1.1 litre DI turbo unit for its powertrain.
All three vehicles will also showcase the company's new collection of "e-Assist" active safety technologies, which includes adaptive cruise control, forward collision management and lane departure warning. Also featured, a failure/malfunction early-detection system, among other tech.
