New MINI hatch F56

The new MINI hatch (F56) will make its official debut this November 18 - 107 years to the day since the birth of Sir Alec Issigonis, the man behind the original Mini of 1959. MINI Plant Oxford will host the world premiere, with a party in London that same evening.

Within the same week, the new MINI will also be unveiled at the Tokyo show on November 20, followed just hours later by the Los Angeles show.

Previewed by the MINI Vision Concept and, to a certain extent, the Rocketman Concept, the new MINI has been spotted on a number of occasions - there's a new wide-eyed look courtesy of its pupil-like DRL rings within its trademark circular headlamps, a more rounded front grille, a longer front overhang and an extended 'chin' for a lower intake.

Spyshots also reveal that the iconic circular central speedometer is gone; in its place sits the radio display and buttons (likely to hold a screen in some models). In another conformist move for MINI (the first being the relocation of the window switches from the centre stack to the doors), the speedo now sits in its own free-standing pod behind the wheel.

The new MINI will go on sale in the first quarter of 2014.
