Is it SUV season in JPJ Putrajaya? Parked nearby the massive Mercedes-Benz GL 500 we showed earlier was this equally imposing Land Rover Discovery 4 SDV6 in its latest updated form. Special thanks goes to regular contributor Anol Alias for spotting these two behemoths.

What's new about this Disco 4, I hear you ask? Just a few bits and pieces really, but very important ones. Peeking into the interior shows a new Jaguar-style rotary gear selector, which means it's connected to the newer eight-speed ZF automatic gearbox rather than the outgoing six-speeder that had a huge gear knob.

The mild update includes a revised engine along with the new transmission. The 3.0 turbodiesel V6 engine now makes 255 hp, up from the previous 244 hp, while torque stays the same at 600 Nm. With two extra cogs, fuel consumption improves from 10.6 to 11.2 km per litre, and CO2 emissions are down by 14 g/km to 230 g/km.

Other changes include a new set of controls for the Terrain Response functions (now with rocker switches rather than the old chunky dial), revised suspension and steering set up plus new design 19-inch wheels. Look out for a local launch very soon, perhaps together with the updated Land Rover Freelander 2 we saw here last week.
