And here it is, the all new F56 MINI hatchback, pretty much 90% undisguised during what appears to be a photo shoot. We've seen plenty of the new MINI over the past few months, including a set of shots that reveal the new interior that's missing the iconic centre speedometer, but nothing beats this set in terms of detail.
There are three different units of the F56 in this set, and two of them are Cooper S models, the green one with a panoramic glass roof and the yellow one with a solid roof. The red car looks like a Cooper, but though it is without a hood scoop, the hood still has a small bulge.
Like what we observed before in the previous spyshots, the F56 MINI Cooper has front end with a longer overhang. I wouldn't be surprised if this is a design change driven somewhat by pedestrian crash test compliance. The new front end with the smaller rounder grille was first previewed on the MINI Rocketman Concept.
There's word that the motor under the hood will lose a cylinder and be based on the 1.5 litre three-cylinder engine that we tested recently in a 1-Series, but installed in a transverse configuration of course, because of the MINI's front wheel drive platform.
