Some time ago we gave you preliminary details on reborn Datsun's first product, and this looks to be it - an inoffensive-looking five-door hatch that's set to make its world debut, along with the revived brand, in New Delhi on July 15.
Targeted primarily at the Indian market, the new Datsun (said to be code-named K2) should be priced below Rs 4 lakh (RM22,400) when it goes on sale sometime next year. Set to be built in Chennai, it will apparently take the Nissan March/Micra as its base and borrow its 1.2 litre three-cylinder engine.
This is in contrast to an earlier report which stated that Datsuns would use the Lada Kalina's platform, although that should be for Russia-specific Datsuns. Not as far-fetched as you might think; remember, their Nissan Almera is not the same as ours.
With "accessibility, reliability and durability" as its core values, Datsun is setting its sights on high-growth markets such as India, Indonesia, Russia and South Africa. Nissan expects to sell around 150,000 to 200,000 Datsuns in India every year.
So what do you think of Dat new sun? Let us know in the comments section.
