The Volkswagen Golf R Mk7 has been busy doing running trials on the Nurburgring, where our hardworking Automedia spy crew caught it on video. The car is likely to premiere in Frankfurt this coming September.

Like the Mk6 R incarnation, the 4MOTION-equipped Mk7 R will be powered by a 2.0 litre turbo mill, but with far more pep - reports suggest that the car could well be a 300 hp beast (the current car has 270 PS) and will be lighter than the outgoing car. The reports add that the new R is likely to be cheaper than its predecessor - great news for fans if it rings true.

What else can be expected? An updated version of the GTI's optional electronically-operated mechanical front limited-slip diff might find its way on to the car, as might a specially-developed electronic stability system that can be deactivated.
