Audi-TT-Roadster-5

The new third-generation Audi TT has been unveiled in coupé form, so now our attention turns to the convertible version, the Audi TT Roadster, spied here lapping the Nürburgring Nordschleife ahead of its expected reveal at the Paris Motor Show next month.

As expected, the Roadster looks pretty much exactly the same as the sharply-styled coupé except the hard top has been replaced with a folding fabric roof. The rear deck looks longer than it is on the coupé – presumably to stow the top – and the minimalist interior of the regular TT appears set to gain the iconic twin roll hoops of previous generations.

The tin top's four-cylinder powertrains are almost certain to be carried over to the Roadster. They include a 184 hp, 380 Nm 2.0 litre TDI with front-wheel drive, a 230 hp, 370 Nm 2.0 litre TFSI petrol available with either front- or four-wheel drive, and a range-topping version of the same petrol engine making 310 hp and 380 Nm on the TTS Roadster. Six-speed manual and S tronic dual clutch transmissions should be offered.
