This striking, swoopy silhouette belongs to the Infiniti Q80 Inspiration, a "four-passenger fastback" concept that the Japanese premium carmaker is bringing to October's Paris motor show.

Infiniti says the concept previews "an audacious top-of-the-line model," and that its dimensions place it "clearly at the peak of the Infiniti range." Needless to say, the 'Q80' moniker is as good an indication of that as any.

At present, Infiniti's biggest and most luxurious sedan is the Q70 (née Infiniti M), which is a 5 Series-, E-Class-, A6-, XF- and GS-fighter.

If we abide by the rules of Infiniti's new nomenclature, the production Q80 should be positioned one rung above the Q70, and just by looking at it, you can deduce that it's going to be a 6 Series GC-, CLS- and A7-fighter. Are we then one step closer to a 7 Series-, S-Class-, A8-, XJ- and LS-rivalling Q90 luxury sedan?
