But while the rest are all closely production-bound, the T-ROC simply previews the styling direction of future VW off-roaders. The "T" in T-ROC is a reference to the nomenclature of current Volkswagen SUVs such as the Tiguan and Touareg, while the "ROC" is there because apparently, the high-riding two-door doesn't shy away from rocks. No, we're not making any of this up – this is VW's own explanation. Measuring 4,179 mm-long and with a 2,595 mm wheelbase, the MQB-based T-ROC features short overhangs, giving it a sporty look from all angles. The styling is all new to Volkswagen, with plenty of LED illumination both front and back, and is said to be the advancement of the brand's SUV DNA. The round lighting modules, which take inspiration from the Volkswagen Karmann Ghia Type 34, house both the headlights and fog lamps plus swivelling spotlights and cameras too. The last two follows the angle of the front wheels and sends a feed of the surroundings to a display on the dashboard. There are power LEDs and cameras round the back too, if you fancy some midnight off-road adventure. Another interesting feature are the removable roof halves, which can be stored in the boot to offer a convertible-like experience. Inside, the interior is a mix of blue and black; the latter colour named 'Adamantium Dark'. The dash-mounted touch-screen display is conceptualised as a portable tablet, sitting above the digital climate control pad. Also on the digital route is the instrument cluster, which uses a 12.2-inch colour display like in the next Audi TT. Powering the thick-set 19-inch wheels is the Golf GTD's 184 PS/380 Nm 2.0 litre turbodiesel engine, working through a seven-speed DSG dual-clutch transmission and a Haldex 4MOTION all-wheel drive system. The drivetrain has three driver-selecable driving models: Street, Offroad and Snow. The Volkswagen T-ROC can get to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds, on the way to its 210 km/h top speed. Weighing a relatively light 1,420 kg helps it maintain a combined fuel efficiency figure of 4.9 litres per 100 km (20.4 km per litre). Now this is a future we can all live with, don't you agree? The Hyundai PassoCorto is a mid-engined, two-seater sports car study powered by a 267 hp 1.6 litre four-cylinder twin-turbo mill. The 4.1 metre-long offering isn't quite the complete work of the Korean automaker, even though the project was led by its European Design Centre. Primary design work on the PassoCorto was from a class of sixteen students on a Master in Transportation Design course at Turin's Istituto Europeo di Design (IED), with the project being coordinated by Pininfarina's lead designer, Luca Borgogno. Working on the design brief handed out by Hyundai Design, which was to come up with a vehicle that Gen-Y consumers would want to own and drive, the entire class submitted design proposals, whittling it down to two that were judged to best fit the initial brief - the two designs were then merged together into the final model, combining around 70% of one proposal and 30% of the other. The PassoCorto, which is the tenth full-scale model created by the clever folk at IED, is unlikely to see the light of day production-wise, but Hyundai shouldn't now be short of ideas if it ever wants to go series on a mid-engined sports car, hey? He also told us, at yesterday's Citroen DS3 launch, that models from the PSA Group's HYbrid4 diesel-hybrid line-up were being considered for local assembly. The new Citroen Grand C4 Picasso, which surfaced last June, sits on a new EMP2 platform. The seven-seater is 110 kg lighter than its predecessor while offering more room inside, thanks in part to a longer 2,840 mm wheelbase. Globally there are 1.6 VTi 120 and 1.6 THP 155 petrol engines, 2.0 BlueHDi 150, 1.6 e-HDi 115 and 1.4 litre e-HDi 90 diesel units, plus manual, auto and ETG (Efficient Tronic Gearbox) transmissions - all with six speeds. We wonder which engine-gearbox combo we'll get. Concerning HYbrid4, our regular 'JPJ correspondent' Anol Alias has spotted no fewer than four such models in Malaysia, based on Peugeots 508 sedan, 508 RXH estate and 3008 crossover, plus the Citroen DS5. All of them see a 2.0 HDi FAP diesel engine driving the front wheels and an electric motor driving the rear wheels. Altogether you get 200 hp and nearly 500 Nm of torque. A start-stop system is standard, and they can be driven on electricity alone (ZEV mode), too. Expect impressive fuel economy - 27.8 km per litre in the case of the Peugeot 508 HYbrid4 sedan, 24.4 km per litre for the Peugeot 508 HYbrid4 RXH and 26.3 km per litre for the Peugeot 3008 HYbrid4 and Citroen DS5 HYbrid4. We reported back in April 2011 that Nasim was exploring the possibility of bringing in the Peugeot 3008 HYbrid4, the world's first production diesel-hybrid, to Malaysia, and that Peugeot was then conducting tests in France with our Euro 2M spec diesel. "So far the tests have yielded positive results, but there are still more tests to be done. Once we can conclude that the 3008 HYbrid4 will have no problems running on Euro 2 diesel, we will look into launching it in Malaysia," Naza boss SM Nasarudin was then quoted as saying. If Frankfurt 2013's Concept Coupe was a P1800 reborn, this is an " New post on Paul Tan's Automotive News Volvo Concept Estate – full details and pics released by Jonathan James Tan Before we've even finished drooling over leaked pics of the Volvo Concept Estate, the Swedish carmaker has released full details of the stunner it's bringing to next month's Geneva show. If Frankfurt 2013's Concept Coupe was a P1800 reborn, this is an 1800 ES reborn – the evocative three-door shooting-brake shape jazzes itself up with T-shaped DRLs, d- (or b-) shaped tail lamps and a grille that looks like the night sky. Equally ogle-worthy are the long and low bonnet, angular rear haunches and tailpipes, glass roof and striking 21-inch five-spoke alloys. It's amusing how the estate, being utilitarian in origin, has evolved to become one of the most dynamic-looking bodystyles in the world of cars. Even more amusing is the fact that, despite the Concept Estate's outside gorgeousness, Volvo has more to say of its interior. The sea of buttons you used to drown in in Volvos of old is nowhere to be found. Instead there's a portrait-oriented touch-tablet on the centre stack that allows you to control pretty much everything except volume, play/pause, hazard lights and window heaters - these presumably call for a more tactile method of operation. Very proudly Swedish - all four occupants get orange-coloured seat belts and under their feet are woven wool carpets from Swedish designer Kasthall. The crystal gear lever with its orange glow comes from Orrefors/Kosta Boda and the tanned saddle leather covering the instrument panel from Tärnsjö. Also contributing to "the feel of a Scandinavian living room" are chequered wool on the ceiling and front seat backs, inlays made of waxed, naturally aged wood and machined copper details. Nothing from Ikea, it seems. There's even a game of Swedish kubb under the load floor in the boot - you know, in case you forget which country the car comes from. Time for a Proton or Perodua concept with congkak in the boot. The Volvo Concept Estate is the last of the three concept cars penned by new design boss Thomas Ingenlath - all of which are SPA- and VEA-based. All of them preview future Volvo models - particularly the next-gen XC90, which is due to launch later this year. The news came after several months of speculation – the company reportedly informed US dealers as early as November that the five-door hybrid would be canned this month and told them to stop taking orders for the car. More recently, Honda ended European sales of the Insight as well as the sportier CR-Z sister last week. The original Honda Insight made headlines in 1999 by being the first hybrid to go on sale in the US, beating the Toyota Prius by seven months. However, the impracticality of the three-door body and odd looks meant that it never reached the sales heights of its competitor. Honda then followed a completely different route with the successor – switching to a Prius-aping five-door bodystyle and slashing prices to undercut even the Prius c (in the US at least) – but even then sales still trailed the Toyota, hampered by poor performance and fuel efficiency. Cumulative global sales of the Prius up to the end of last year stood at 3.19 million units, outstripping the Insight (at 280,629 units) by more than ten to one. Last year, Honda sold just 4,802 Insights in the US and 1,242 in Europe. This makes the car the second worst-selling Honda model in both markets, beaten only by the CR-Z. As of now it is unclear whether there will be a successor to the current car, which if produced would almost certainly be using the Earth Dreams powertrain of the new Fit/Jazz Hybrid. Also unclear is the fate of the CR-Z, given that it shares the Insight's platform, basic hybrid technology and production line, but it is understood that production is set to continue in the meantime. Currently available for the Lamborghini Aventador range, it will soon be extended to the Huracan. The long-serving Gallardo's replacement will be making its motor show debut in the Swiss city as well. The new options increase the ability to commission a new Lambo right down to the smallest details. Passenger compartment colour combinations have been increased, with an expanded choice of leather and Alcantara hues, as well as the range of colours for floormats and seatbelts. New dual-colour exterior paint and livery possibilities are also offered. The new range of materials include semi-aniline leather and high-tech materials such as Forged Composite, a Lamborghini patented carbon-fibre material. From hand-stitched seat emblems and monograms inside the passenger compartment, right through to requests for custom colours - everything is possible. Customers taking advantage of the Ad Personam programme can also configure their cars at the Lamborghini plant in Sant'Agata Bolognese, assisted by a dedicated specialist who ensures that the vehicle produced is not only unique, but fits in with the Lamborghini brand and traditions. The blue Aventador Roadster pictured here is an example of Ad Personam in action. It boasts Forged Composite inserts on the front spoiler, air intake, rear spoiler and in the cabin. The mirrors and transparent engine hood details have been are in matte silver instead of black, while the body colour is a customised colour called Blue Sideris.
