The official announcement was made earlier today during an International College of Automotive-related event " New post on Paul Tan's Automotive News Datuk Abdul Harith Abdullah appointed as Proton CEO by Anthony Lim DRB-Hicom has announced that Datuk Abdul Harith Abdullah has been appointed to the post of chief executive officer of Proton, effective April 15. The official announcement was made earlier today during an International College of Automotive-related event at Holiday Inn Kuala Lumpur Glenmarie. In March, it was reported that Harith, DRB-Hicom's group director for automotive and defence, had been named as acting CEO. Earlier in February, deputy CEO Datuk Lukman Ibrahim was reported to have vacated his post, but no official announcement was made regarding his departure. Lukman was appointed to the deputy CEO post at Proton on May 1, 2012, shortly after DRB-Hicom took over control of the national carmaker. Harith holds a Master's degree from the Royal College of Art in London, majoring in vehicle design. Prior to his position as group head for automotive and defence, he led several companies under the DRB-Hicom Group, namely Automotive Corporation Malaysia, Modenas and DRB-HICOM Defence Technologies (DEFTECH). This is of course a rebadged vers" New post on Paul Tan's Automotive News Gold Youngman Lotus L3 GT shown at Auto China by Jonathan Lee Our photographers at Auto China stumbled upon this rather... amusing gold Youngman Lotus L3 GT sedan while finishing up their run of the show, and sent us these pictures to pique our interest. Having a case of déjà vu? This is of course a rebadged version of the Proton Persona – part of the national carmaker's strategic partnership with Youngman, which sees the Chinese manufacturer paying royalties in exchange for Campro engines as well as CKD kits of the Persona and Gen2 (the latter is sold as the L3). Using our familiar family sedan as the base, Youngman then threw on an absurd wide bodykit (which we had already seen at Auto Guangzhou back in 2010). Race-inspired details abound, including bonnet pins and quad exhaust tips, and the boot lid is topped off with a rear wing tall enough to be used as a hurdle. Added to that, the car is then wrapped in this blinding gold chrome finish, which Youngman obviously thinks Chinese customers would like. So, what do you think – does this give Brothers a run for its money, or is this something even the most extroverted individual would hide from? [New post] Volkswagen New Midsize Coupe – production model already leaked, likely based on MQB architecture

The images show a car that is practically unchanged from the concept, losing only the showcar-spec LED head and tail lights (gaining some current Passat-esque items instead), front and rear bumper detailing and enormous 22-inch alloy wheels (replaced by smaller split-spoke wheels). The interior, on the other hand, is similar to the Mk7 Golf, with the flat-bottomed multi-function three spoke steering wheel, the driver-oriented centre console and much of the switchgear. The head unit on this model appears to be the RCD 320 unit also seen on our locally-assembled Jetta and Polo models – higher trim levels in China will likely receive the large-touchscreen units from the Golf. Expected to be based on the VW Group's modular MQB architecture that will also underpin the next-generation Jetta, the production NMC will reportedly be powered by the familiar 2.0 litre TSI four-cylinder mill from the Golf GTI, mated to the six-speed DSG transmission, although other engine and transmission options such as the 1.4 TSI engine and seven-speed DSG transmission could also be on offer. Just after BMW confirmed that it will be building a flagship X7 SUV, CAR UK has now reported that an Audi Q9 flagship is being considered to compete with it, sitting above the already enormous seven-seater Q7 (pictured above). Asked about a range-topping model at Auto China in Beijing, Audi chairman of the board and CEO Rupert Stadler told the British publication that while the R8 is the flagship of the brand and the embodiment of the tagline "vorsprung durch technik", there was still room for the rest of the range to grow. And that growth will apparently come from its Q lineup, with Stadler saying, "We want to expand the SUV side of the business. By 2020, our Q models will account for over 45% of sales." Neither is the company worried about being late to the mega-SUV market, with Bentley and Lamborghini concepts already shown. "If we do [a Q9], it will not be because of what our rivals are doing," said Stadler. He also added that if and when it does get the green light, an e-tron plug-in hybrid variant will be offered. But while the Audi range has space to grow upmarket, the possibility of the brand pushing in the opposite direction – possibly with a up!-based A0 city car – remains unlikely. "There is no need for a car [below the A1 in the range]," Stadler said. "We are quite happy with A1. It sells 120,000 units, and has a high degree of equipment and accessories, so [profit margins] are quite good. It remains to be seen if Audi would take the two-pronged approach to moving upmarket by creating a new flagship sedan to slot above the A8 as well, following what BMW might be doing with its own range – apart from the X7, BMW is also mulling a possible 9 Series, which the Vision Future Luxury concept shown in Beijing might have been previewing. It's FAW-Volkswagen's Magotan, a nameplate that started life on the China-assembled European B6 Passat, before becoming a long-wheelbase B7. Refer to our European B8 Passat spyshots and you'll see trapezoidal twin tailpipes that are integrated into the rear bumper - this MQB-based Magotan has them too. There are new angular headlamps, a sleek, CC-like side profile with Mk7 Golf-like body creases and new tail lamps (LEDs available). The plush interior features double chrome trim across the dash (camouflaging and 'hiding' the air vents, by the looks of it!) and a healthy dose of wood trim. More than a few things are recognisable from the Mk7 Golf, including the driver-oriented fascia, flat-bottomed steering wheel, climate controls, switchgear and infotainment touch-screen. The European B8 Volkswagen Passat is rumoured to be heading towards a Paris show premiere in October, while the new Chinese FAW-Volkswagen Magotan is expected to debut in the second half of 2015.
