At first sight the white SUV in these spyshots from JPJ Putrajaya sent in by reader ApexKit may look like just any other Land Rover Freelander 2, but a closer inspection at the badging on the rear reveals an Si4 badge instead of SD4.
This means this is the petrol version of the Freelander with a 2.0 litre turbocharged direct injection four cylinder engine instead of the 2.2 litre turbodiesel engine in the Freelander 2 SD4 on sale in Malaysia now.
The Land Rover Freelander Si4's 2.0 litre turbocharged engine is similiar to the one in the petrol powered version of the Range Rover Evoque, producing 240 PS and 340Nm of torque. It's mated to a 6-speed CommandShift gearbox, just like the SD4 diesel model.
The Land Rover Freelander 2 Si4 will be an extra option to consider for those who want to enter into Land Rover ownership at the most affordable level available, but have been reluctant to do so because they prefer a petrol engine instead of a diesel engine.
