Former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has combined his love for golf with an opportunity to help active and retired Royal Welsh servicemen. A number of items related to his last year at the helm of the club – including his Chevrolet Captiva seven-seater SUV – were auctioned off at the Sir Alex Ferguson Golf Classic event earlier this month.
Besides the Chevy, a one-off signed portrait of the Scotsman and a piece of footballing history – the handwritten final retirement statement drafted by Sir Alex – were also auctioned. Proceeds from the event were donated to The Royal Welsh Benevolence Fund.

If you're wondering why a weathly football manager has a humble Captiva, it's because of Chevrolet's relationship with Man Utd. The GM brand has been the club's Official Automotive Sponsor since 2012. The partnership is set to deepen when Chevy becomes the club's shirt sponsor starting in the 2014/15 season. This coming season will be the last one with AON on United's kit.
Fergie's replacement David Moyes (pic) reported for his first day of work on July 1 driving a black Chevrolet Captiva LTZ 2.2 VCDi into Carrington, MU's training ground. As part of the sponsorship deal, United players and staff received the keys to their new Chevys earlier this year. Who picked what? Click here to see.
